Trends on Tap

Kitchen taps and faucets received a lot of attention last year, described by interior designers like Anna Dhillon of Anna Dhillon Design as pieces of “jewellery” or “accessories” that pull the space together. This year, kitchen sinks are receiving much the same sort of attention, so here’s a look at some trending beauties in kitchen sink and tap design.

Mix and Match Right now there is a big demand for kitchen taps and faucets that allow people to customize and personalize their space, says Kohler Canada’s manager of marketing and communications, Donna Church. In response to this, Kohler has released its Artifacts line, which allows people to mix and match faucets and taps from the collection, and is available at Kohler’s new Vancouver showroom (Broadway and Fir). Gold Standard We are moving away from the industrial-kitchen inspired look of 2016 towards a simple, clean, contemporary esthetic, which is a standard set by Dornbracht, with their classic gooseneck faucet. For those partial to a bit of glam, you can’t beat Dornbracht’s Tara faucet in Cyprum, a high-gloss rose-gold finish created using copper and 18-carat gold. Depth When it comes to kitchen sinks, people are looking for more depth, literally. Practicality is driving this trend, but it doesn’t end there. Large sink designs, such as the exquisite range by New Mexico’s Stone Forest in opulent, rich, marbles and basalt, make the kitchen sink the central feature of the room. Back to Black When it comes to kitchen faucets and taps, “Black is a huge, huge trend right now,” says Anna Dhillon. “I would say the metallics are still hot, gold is still hot, but black is hotter. Matte black is definitely the direction we’re going in.” Blanco's IKON 30 Silgranit apron kitchen sink (in matte black) is a great example.
