2015 Bonterra Cabernet Sauvignon (U.S.A). Bonterra and winemaker Bob Blue has been crafting organic wines for over 25 years. This Cab is a balance of black fruit, cassis, herbs, chocolate and toasted oak flavours. Think steak! The 2014 received 91 Pts from Wine Enthusiast and was named American Winery of the Year by the magazine as well. It’s barrel-aged and it’s the perfect entry-level wine. $16 at BC Liquor Stores, Bcliquorstores.com

Dom

Emiliana Organic Vineyards (Chile). Located in Chile's central valley, Emiliana is totally committed to bio-dynamic and organic wines (think the Adobe Chardonnay, the 2015 Novas Gran Reserva Carménère Cab Sauvignon or the 2015 Adobe Reserva Syrah). But the true gem of Emiliana is their Coyam. A blend of syrah, carménère, merlot, cabernet sauvignon, mourvèdre, malbec and petit verdot. The 2013 earned a 93 score from James Suckling. He gave the 2015 95 Points. Get this—it's $28.50. Notes of smoke, wood, dark fruit ... wonderful balance and finish. Did I say it was under $30? At Liberty Wine Merchants, Libertywinemerchants.com

Sperling 2014 Old Vine Riesling (B.C.). The Sperling family have been farming in the North Okanagan for many years. After studying the soil and former farming practices they decided to go all in organic and bring the land back to A-1 prime. They received their organic certification this year and it shows in the 2014 chardonnay and especially the 2014 old vines riesling. The riesling has notes of petrol—minerality, spices, a hint of mint—and it’s glorious. But if you hold it for five to seven years the payoff is spectacular. It’s $35 and it will go fast.  Available at Sperlingvineyards.com
