Uncorking the senses at Savour the Sun Mountain Wine Festival

Sun Peaks Resort kicked off it's Savour the Sun Mountain Wine Festival with a little friendly competition on the evening of December 5th between The Sun Peaks Grand Hotel's own Chef Hans Stierli and Oliver Eats Chef Derek Uhlemann as they battled it out at the new Uncork the Blackbox event. In addition to the exceptional culinary creations by the two chefs, wine pairings were expertly suited to each dish by Culmina Family Estate Winery and La Stella Winery making for an evening of gourmet flavour that guests won't soon forget.

The excitement of the evening before still fresh in their minds, guests had a lovely day to enjoy the charming European feel of the Sun Peaks Ski Resort Village. Whether visiting the shops and restaurants located in the village or enjoying a full day of skiing on the mountain; the perfect place to warm up and relax was in the warmth of the majestic Sun Peaks Grand Hotel in one of their steamy outdoor spas or while seated in a cozy armchair in front of the roaring fireplaces found throughout the hotel.

After a relaxing day at The Sun Peaks Grand Hotel, attendees of the wine fest prepared for an interactive evening of private collection, and difficult to find wines presented by the winemakers and paired with exciting dishes to compliment the rare blends. The Savour the Sun event took place at the Sunburst Lodge; located higher up the mountain reachable by a lovely evening gondola ride. Featured wineries included CheckMate Winery, Covert Farms Family Estate, Intersection Estate Winery, and Kismet Estate Winery, to name a few.

 Following the informative Uncork Oliver Osoyoos Wine seminar led by Jennifer Busmann, Executive Director of Oliver Osoyoos Wine Country, where we explored which varietals are putting the region on the international map; it was off for an elegant evening in The Sun Peaks Grand Hotel's ballroom for Uncork Your Senses. With fifteen Oliver Osoyoos Wineries in attendance, there was no shortage of vintages to explore as guests wandered through a sea of gourmet foods prepared by Chef Hans Stierli during this very social event. Impressive wineries such as Oliver Twist Estate Winery, Lariana Cellars, vinAmité Cellars, and River Stone Estate Winery were delighted to pour and educate as the night went on.

What better way to finish a wonderful weekend celebrating Oliver Osoyoos wines than to close the Savour the Sun Mountain Wine Fest with a delectable brunch in the hotel's ballroom. From mountains of fresh fruit and pastries to rich eggs benedict and mouth-watering breakfast meats this stunning spread was complimented by deliciously crisp sparkling wines from Road 13 Vineyards, Maverick Estate Winery, La Casa Bianca Winery, along with many other fabulous wineries mentioned throughout this piece.
