Aberdeen Centre’s giant water fountain will be transformed into a giant stage for 80 dogs and their owners to showcase their skills and beauty for the 15th annual dog show on Sept. 15.

Contestants will perform in different categories such as the best costume, best agility, most obedient, super dog-a-thon and most photogenic during the show.

“I recommend everyone to come and watch the show and cheer for their favourite dog,” said Joey Kwan, director of promotion and public relations of Aberdeen.

“Come witness the dogs’ (skills) and see who will win the title.”

All applicants must meet specific requirements before they are allowed onto the show.

Kwan said the dogs have to be able to do some of the agility work and are not aggressive towards other dogs, adding that they “don’t want any accidents or trouble with other dogs and owners for safety reasons.”

This year, the best costume category will have two Tisol sponsors, which will double the winning prize.

A panel of judges consisting of two Fairchild Radio hosts, Deborah Moore and Mary Lo, as well as two representatives from Daiso, will determine the best costume and most photogenic contestant.

Don Chan, a professional dog trainer, from the TK Canine Training Centre in Richmond is invited as a special judge to determine the winning competitor in the best agility, most obedient and super dog-a-thon categories.

The show will run from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Aberdeen Centre’s atrium.
