Spring sipping made stylish

ALTHOUGH it may seem like winter is attempting to outstay its welcome, spring is officially here and it's time to start enjoying the longer days and brighter weather.

ALTHOUGH it may seem like winter is attempting to outstay its welcome, spring is officially here and it's time to start enjoying the longer days and brighter weather.

One way to do this is to incorporate some spring ideas and colours into your home's decor and table settings. Pastels are in this year. Whether it's in home decor or fashion you will see lots of colour everywhere. I love to brighten up the home and add a bit of spring to rooms in the house with toss cushions and decorative accent pieces like vases.

If you are planning a spring birthday party or spring gathering here is a cute idea for your kids or perhaps as a spring centrepiece. I saw this idea at a friend's house last year and she immersed the straws in iced drinks for the kids. I thought it would also be cute as a table setting on a brightly coloured tablecloth.

Materials: 1 package of coloured straws

1 package of patterned muffin (cupcake) liner cups (I found mine in the baking section of Michaels) Tall, clear drinking glasses Coloured ice (optional) Sharp scissors

Remove the muffin liners from their packaging. Carefully cut the edges of the liners with your scissors to make the shape of flower petals. Repeat this process with the other liners.

Using your scissors, make a small hole in the centre of the muffin liners and set aside.

If you wish to add your premade coloured ice to the glasses this would be a good time to do this. (You can make your own coloured ice by freezing juice overnight and crushing it on the ice crusher setting on your blender.) Insert your straw through the middle hole and place in the glass.

Group your flower petal straws together in the centre of your table if you wish to make this a table centrepiece. I like to roll a length of coloured wrapping paper down the centre of the table for added colour.
