We can certainly say we have had our fair share of rain (and snow) this winter.
I can honestly say I am ready to see spring arrive. Even though spring is still a few weeks away, right now may be the perfect time to break out of the winter rut and update your home for sunnier weather.
There are many ways to shake off the remnants of winter. Your front door area is a great place to start. After all, it is the first area your guests will arrive at so it’s important to make it a bright and welcoming one.
First impressions are everything, so take the time to bring your home out of hibernation and add a few pops of spring colour to your décor.
Here are some tips from the pros to help give your home a spring-like feel.
Painting Your Front Door
This is probably the idea that will give you the most mileage for your dollar. Painting your front door is relatively easy and affordable. The results are fantastic and will give your entryway a full pop of colour and a crisp, clean feel to your home. Update any old and rusted hardware to finish it off.
Colourful Blooms in Pots
A quick trip to the nursery will result in some colourful flowers for your front door. If you don’t already have some clean, new pots there are many available now that come in a variety of colours. Nothing says spring like fresh, colourful blooms.
Bench or Chair
It’s always nice to have a place for guests to sit when they go to leave your home. On muddy days, a corner chair is perfect to take one’s shoes off before entering. Decorate it up with a colourful pillow.
Baskets
Baskets are wonderful for storing gardening tools, blankets and garden shoes. Tuck one under your bench or chair on your porch.
Outdoor Rug
I love outdoor rugs under covered porches and entrance ways. There are so many pretty outdoor rugs on the market now that will complement your entryway. Look for rugs with patterns to hide the day-to-day dirt. It’s amazing how an outdoor rug can not only add that necessary pop of colour but provide a warm feeling to your entry as well.
Last but not least, don’t forget to keep your entrance clean and tidy. Be sure to sweep and vacuum to give that very good first impression.
