West Vancouver foundation gives scholarships

SIX North Shore students were awarded a grand total of $7,000 in scholarships by the West Vancouver Community Foundation earlier this month.

SIX North Shore students were awarded a grand total of $7,000 in scholarships by the West Vancouver Community Foundation earlier this month.

Outstanding academic performance combined with a commitment to community service earned Luke Rowan the Faris Family Scholarship. Rowan, a graduate of Rockridge secondary, is slated to enroll in either humanities or social sciences at university. If Rowan can maintain an A average, the scholarship will pay him $1,500 a year for the next four years.

Andrew Martin, a recent graduate of West Vancouver secondary, was awarded the $500 Jerry Beckerman Memorial Scholarship due to his strong academic record and dedication to community service.

Eva Jordison, of West Vancouver secondary, took home the $500 Trajan Martin Memorial Award because of her compassion, integrity, and exuberance for life. This fund was established by family and friends of Martin, who passed away at the age of 26.

Siobhan Brown, of West Vancouver secondary, was awarded the James A. Inkster Leadership Award, due to her enthusiasm for extracurricular activities, leadership and school spirit. Nik Marshall, of Sentinel secondary, and Jeff McKinnon, of UBC, were awarded the Jeremy Dalton Rugby Endowment Award. The award is given to a member of the Capilano Rugby Club who demonstrates a sense of community spirit, academic interest and a love for rugby.
