An in-home care provider in West Vancouver is once again calling on the public to help add a little extra holiday cheer for older adults and seniors in need.

Home Instead’s annual Be a Santa to a Senior program is on now until Dec. 11.

With proper COVID-19 protocols in place, the public is invited to visit the West Vancouver Home Instead location at 301-2232 Marine Dr. where they’ll find a decorated tree adorned with ornaments inscribed with the names of seniors-in-need and their desired gift.

Holiday shoppers are then invited to grab an ornament, buy the requested gift and return it unwrapped to the office with the ornament attached, where it will then be wrapped up and delivered to local seniors just in time for the holidays.

Many of the seniors eligible for the program are low income, living with mental illness, or experiencing social isolation which is exacerbated by the pandemic, according to Janet Hassell, owner of the Home Instead office serving the North Shore and Downtown Vancouver.

“We need the community’s help more than ever to make sure seniors feel connected this year,” stated Hassell in a press release. “This year, we knew we had to find a way to spread holiday cheer to seniors, and we are grateful for the community’s participation.”
