B.C. hikers rejoice, the Grouse Grind will officially open to the public Friday morning.
Metro Vancouver staff have completed seasonal maintenance work on Mother Nature’s Stairmaster, including the removal of dangerous trees, some rock scaling as well as general repairs.
"Thanks to the hard work of our regional park crews and the great weather we’ve been having, we are able to open the Grouse Grind Trail earlier than expected this year,” stated John McEwen, chair of Metro Vancouver's Regional Parks Committee, in a release.
The grind is open to hikers of all abilities, but McEwen is encouraging climbers to make sure they know what they’re signing up for before beginning an ascent.
"Everyone who’s anxious to hit the Grind and enjoy the park’s breathtaking views can now do so, but be mindful that it’s a strenuous hike. Be sure you’re in good shape and be prepared with lots of water and good hiking shoes.”
Hikers that get their blood pumping by listening to music are free to do so, just make sure to bring your headphones.
Eager to beat the all-time record for climbs in a day? If so, be prepared to head up the grind 18 times.
Fitness enthusiasts who have been patiently waiting can get started early. The grind is open from 6:15 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily.
