Tetrahedron Provincial Park, established in 1995, is a favourite recreation area of Sunshine Coasters, but it is also of great ecological significance.

Tetrahedron Provincial Park is one of the Sunshine Coast’s treasures that was established in 1995. Its hiking trails, lakes and nature are attractions for park visitors. In a presentation May 3, Tony Greenfield and Rand Rudland will look into the history of the Tetrahedron Provincial Park, and present an overview of the biodiversity found in this essentially Mountain Hemlock Ecozone, with its meadows, fens, parklands and forests.

Although primarily a summer hiking and winter skiing destination, the number of species of known flowering plants (45), trees/shrubs (28), fungi (19), lichen (15), butterflies (16), dragonflies (13), birds (116) make this a naturalist’s paradise. Five Sunshine Coast Natural History Society volunteers spent four days this past summer exploring, and documenting this biodiversity. Tony and Rand will present the results of their efforts, and update the membership on the status of the educational signage project that stems from the work done last summer.

The Sunshine Coast Natural History Society is a local group interested on the natural history of B.C. and the world. Monthly meetings are held on the first Friday of the month for most of the year. Our society is pleased to present this event at the Sunshine Coast Arts Center on Friday, May 3 at 7 p.m. All are welcome. If you are interested in joining the society, visit their website: sites.google.com/view/sunshinecoastnhs/home.
