As thousands prepare to gather this weekend in commemoration of the loss of 176 passengers on Flight 752 three years ago, the City of North Vancouver is alerting the community of related closures during the event.

The event on Sunday begins with a march at 2 p.m., starting at Ray Sargent Park and continuing down Lonsdale Avenue to The Shipyards, where a ceremony will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. at Shipbuilder’s Square. Families of the Flight 752 victims and dignitaries will be in attendance, and there will be a candlelight commemoration ceremony.

The event is organized by The Association of Families of Flight PS752 and is expected to draw up to 5,000 attendees.

If you’re in the area, here’s what to watch out for:

  • rolling road closures starting from 2 p.m. at the north end of Lonsdale, which will impact east-west traffic – as the procession proceeds down Lonsdale, cross-roads will re-open;
  • transit will be re-routed temporarily and riders can look for service updates on TransLink's website;
  • parking down Lonsdale will be limited throughout the afternoon;
  • traffic and transit delays in Lower Lonsdale as the Shipbuilder’s Square crowd disperses;
  • emergency vehicle access and egress will be maintained;
  • limited parking during the event;
  • The Skate Plaza will maintain usual operations from 1 to 8 p.m; and
  • The Warming Hut will be closed for the afternoon and will open at 5 p.m.
