4 North Vancouver organizations are taking part in the One Million Masks initiative.
Non-profit organizations on the North Shore are joining up with a massive provincewide initiative to distribute PPE masks to residents having trouble accessing them for essential travel.

The One Million Masks initiative is distributing – you guessed it – one million surgical masks across B.C. to people who need to travel in order to access essential public services during the pandemic.

The initiative, led by United Way, includes support from organizations like TransLink, Vancouver International Airport, BC Ferries, BC Transit, BCAA, and Deloitte.

While it appears the majority of British Columbians are able to adhere to B.C.’s mandatory mask-wearing rules during the pandemic, United Way has identified a concern that “not everyone who needs to travel to access essential public services or for other essential reasons has the means or ability to obtain a clean face mask,” according to a news release.

The distribution of one million masks will target a number of groups – from kids and young families, to seniors, unsheltered homeless populations and new immigrants – via 100 local agencies in 23 communities across B.C.

Masks will be distributed in North Vancouver at the following locations:

Capilano Community Services Society – School’s Out

Hollyburn Family Services Society

North Shore Community Resources

North Shore Neighbourhood House

The masks are free for those who must travel and have no access to clean ones. They’ll be distributed locally until March 5.
