A North Shore News reader sent in this photo of snowfall at Maplewood Flats in North Vancouver this morning (Feb. 13). Five to 10 centimetres of snow is expected today.

If you woke up to a winter wonderland this morning, expect the snowfall to continue for at least the rest of the morning.

Between five and 10 centimetres of snow is expected today (Saturday, Feb. 13) throughout Metro Vancouver, according to Environment Canada.

A snowfall warning was issued this morning for the region, which includes the North Shore, the City of Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, Surrey, Langley, Richmond and Delta.

Pacific moisture associated with an approaching frontal system is colliding with the arctic front along Vancouver Island, accounting for this morning’s snow.

Heavy snow is expected to continue this morning and then ease this afternoon, according to Environment Canada.

Commuters are warned to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow, warns Environment Canada.
