Creepy crafts and ghostly games are coming to Fraser River Discovery Centre this weekend.

In honour of the Halloween weekend, Fraser River Discovery Centre is expanding its monthly Super Saturdays program to two days this weekend. Families can head to Discovery Centre on Friday, Oct. 29 and Saturday, Oct. 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“As the days grow shorter and colder, we’re getting into the spirit of the season and invite you to join us all weekend for creepy crafts and ghostly games,” said Stephen Bruyneel, FRDC’s director of external relations and development.

Super Saturdays is a regular series of public programs that celebrate the living, working Fraser River at the Fraser River Discovery Centre.

At this weekend’s event, visitors (who are invited to wear a costume) can decorate mini pumpkins and learn why pumpkins are so closely connected to Halloween. They’ll also learn about the Japanese printing style of Gyotaku, and youngsters can customize their very own trick-or-treat goody bags.

“There will be fun for everyone, although these activities are best suited for families with children aged six to 11,” Bruyneel said in a news release. “All activities will also be consistent with our COVID health and safety plan. Pre-registration is required, as is a B.C. vaccine card showing full vaccination for those over 12 years old. Masks must be worn at all times for visitors aged six and older.”

Held on the last Saturday of every month, Super Saturdays features family-friendly activities, all focused on a different Fraser River topic. Past themes have included migratory birds, tugboats and white sturgeon.

Attendance at Super Saturdays is free with admission to Fraser River Discovery Centre’s galleries, but you need to pre-register.

Located at 788 Quayside Dr. On New Westminster’s waterfront, Fraser River Discovery Centre provides a variety of exhibits, programs and activities related to the Fraser River. More information can be found at www.fraserriverdiscovery.org.
