MT. Seymour's seventh annual Shred for the Cure raised $39,000 for breast cancer research and the B.C. Cancer Foundation.

MT. Seymour's seventh annual Shred for the Cure raised $39,000 for breast cancer research and the B.C. Cancer Foundation.

The event, which was launched originally to encourage more women to hit the slopes, has grown into a successful fundraising event for breast cancer research, according to a press release.

Over a nine-week period, approximately 5,400 women showed up on Monday nights for this year's initiative, which raised the highest amount for the foundation yet, bringing the total contribution to more than $100,000 over the past seven years.

Shred for the Cure has turned out to be a resounding success, said Eddie Wood, general manager for Mt. Seymour Resorts, in the statement. The support they have seen for this event and the amount of donations received is truly amazing, he added.

Douglas Nelson, president and CEO of the foundation said the fundraiser has rallied the support of thousands of ladies with a common goal - to help ensure that life-saving breast cancer research moves forward with a significant impact on the lives of cancer patients and their families throughout the province.
