Grab some tackle, cast a line and show dad you care this weekend during the Family Fishing Society’s annual Family Fishing Weekend on Sunday. Set to coincide with Father’s Day, this year’s event will give families the opportunity to try out fishing at eight locations around the Lower Mainland, including Rice Lake in North Vancouver. Organized by the Seymour Salmonid Society, you can bring your dad to Rice Lake between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. for the free event, featuring community booths, a band, bouncy castle, face painting, food trucks and of course fishing. Rods are available to borrow.

Lynn Valley Days kicks off tonight at 5:30 p.m. with its Friday Night Gala ($99) – with cocktails, chef stations, a dessert bar and dancing galore – followed by a free parade and community fair tomorrow that begins at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast followed by the parade at 9:30 a.m. After that, a full day of family-focused activities will be held on Lynn Valley Field – think face painting, bouncy castles, live music and much more. See you there!

It stars kids and it’s for kids, and you can catch the show tonight at 7 p.m. or tomorrow at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in West Vancouver. North Shore Mountain Theatre’s production of Madagascar: A Musical Adventure Jr. is playing at Kay Meek Theatre, with audiences invited to join Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the hip hip Hippo and hilarious plotting penguins as they bound onto the stage in a musical adventure based on the hit animated film.   

Dundarave Village in West Vancouver is going to be turned into a veritable Porsche party on June 17 during the 12th annual Dundarave Porsche Show and Ride. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, a variety of classic and modern Porsches will line the streets of the 2400 block of Dundarave. Admission is free for spectators, but donations earmarked for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be gladly accepted.

Who needs the World Cup when all the soccer action you could ever really want is in your own backyard? The Mountain United Football Club invites the public to its Soccer Carnival on Sunday, complete with a community barbecue, juggle-a-thon, soccer games, human foosball, DJ performances and, naturally, a coaches’ dunk tank. Stop by Fen Burdett Stadium in North Vancouver anytime between 6 and 9:30 p.m. to get in on the action.
