Your Friday nights just got a little less square. Stop by Shipbuilders’ Square in Lower Lonsdale for the soft opening of the Shipyards Night Market May 4, where you’ll be able to enjoy fresh food, local products and arts and entertainment every Friday from 5 to 10 p.m. until Sept. 28.

Let’s head westward. Hop on down to West Van’s Gleneagles Community Centre for “Spring Fest West” May 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature live music from Karen Fowlie & Copper Cove Road, games, a plant sale, scavenger hunt, a bunny petting zoo, and more. There will also be the opportunity to explore the community centre’s ongoing activities like pickleball, golf, and pottery.

West Vancouver United Church is hosting its Super Spring Flea Market May 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., which will feature books, electronics, clothing for all ages, hardware, estate goods and much more.

One of the largest free youth week events in the Lower Mainland is returning to the City Skate Park (2300 Lonsdale Ave.) May 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. CityFest will include live music, a dance showcase, photo booths, a local art show, barbecue and food booths, prizes and games. Plus, youth can learn to skate safe with free longboard lessons (helmet and waiver form signed by parent required).

This weekend, let’s send a message of inclusion and hope to the estimated 70,000 British Columbians currently living with dementia and Alzheimer’s. The Investors Group Walk for Alzheimer’s starts at John Lawson Park in West Vancouver May 6. Registration opens at 10 a.m. with the five-kilometre walk along a stretch of Centennial Seawalk set to kickoff at 11:30 a.m. The walk is a fun, family-friendly way to participate in this worthwhile cause. Over 250 Walks take place in communities across Canada each year.
