The Metro Vancouver weather forecast includes a snowfall warning with as much as 5 cm of snow expected to fall on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024.

A snowfall warning has been issued for Metro Vancouver as a storm is expected to bring a "wintry mix of precipitation" to the region Tuesday (Feb. 27).

Environment Canada issued the snow alert just before 9 a.m. Tuesday, warning locals that snow is expected to fall late in the afternoon and continue into Wednesday.

Snow levels will be hovering near sea level late Tuesday afternoon, and the precipitation will start as "rain mixed with snow." Snowfall accumulations are expected to vary greatly with elevation and proximity to the water.

A warming southwesterly flow aloft is expected to cause snow levels to rise overnight Tuesday, shifting the mixed precipitation to "moderate or heavy rain" around midnight.

Snowfall amounts near 5 cm can be expected before it transitions to rain.

Moderate to heavy rain is expected to continue through Wednesday and ease to a few showers in the evening as the storm dissipates. Total rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm are expected.

Environment Canada warns that there may be a "significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas."
