The former owners the Vancouver Trump Hotel are suing a man who allegedly threw an ice bucket at the head of another bar patron.

West George Holdings Inc. and TA Hotel Management Limited Partnership Ltd. are suing Gurinder Thandi following an incident alleged to have happened July 15, 2018 in the Drai’s Vancouver hotel bar.

The notice of civil claim filed Oct. 19 in B.C. Supreme Court alleges Thandi, without warning, threw an ice bucket at the head of patron Jevan Basra.

Basra filed a lawsuit against Thandi and TA Management Oct. 4, 2018, alleging negligence and breach of duty by TA Management.

The claim said TA Management has denied those claims.

The court documents state any injuries Basra sustained are a result of Thandi’s actions.

The claim asks the court that, should it be found liable in the earlier lawsuit, that Thandi be found at fault and that any financial damages or costs resulting from the first action are covered by Thandi.

“TA management says that Thandi struck Basra with the ice bucket and Thandi is liable for the incident and Basra’s alleged injury, loss, damage and expense, if any, under the torts of assault and battery,” the claim said.

The alleged incident happened 17 months after the hotel opening, which saw then-President Donald Trump’s sons Eric and Donald Jr. in attendance.

The hotel operator TA Hotel Management Partnership Ltd. filed for bankruptcy in 2020.

The hotel reopened in spring 2021 as the rebranded Paradox Hotel, owned by the Holborn Group.

None of the allegations have been proven in court
