Sechelt man identified as victim in Halfmoon Bay shooting

A 56-year-old man died from gunshot wounds on June 22, according to the RCMP's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. Two suspects are in custody.

Investigators have identified Sechelt resident Gregory Roy Sullivan, aged 56, as the victim in a June 22 shooting in Halfmoon Bay.

In a June 24 RCMP Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) written statement, Sgt. Timothy Pierotti stated, “We’re asking anyone who had recent interactions with Mr. Sullivan to contact IHIT, as we build a timeline of events leading up to this tragedy.” Anyone with such information or dash camera images from the incident area between 3 and 4 a.m. on June 22 is asked to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at [email protected]. The IHIT file number is 2023-890.

Two suspects were identified at scene and taken into custody, according to the statement. “We are still in the evidence gathering stages of the investigation,” Pierotti said.

Details released noted that IHIT was dispatched to the Coast after frontline Sunshine Coast RCMP officers responded to a report received at 3:38 a.m.  In the 8000 block of Birch Way, local officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds outside a residence. Despite the efforts of first responders, the man succumbed to his injuries. IHIT has taken on the investigation and continues to work in partnership with the Sunshine Coast RCMP Detachment and the BC Coroners Service on the file.

Birch Way was closed to traffic for a portion of June 22 and 23, but Highway 101 remained open.

Coast Reporter was alerted to the police presence along Highway 101 in the Trout Lake area by a community member who drove past the scene. The individual said that as of 10:30 a.m. officers and two RCMP patrol units with warning lights engaged were at the scene. He reported an approximate 100-foot area on the east side of the highway had been secured behind police tape. In an update shortly after noon, he indicated that a police canine unit was also at the location.
