A Richmond-based company is selling a customizable ring to raise funds for earthquake relief.

Geme, a brand selling personalized jewelry, will be donating all proceeds from its crescent moon and star ring to support Direct Relief's operations in Turkey and Syria.

The two countries were struck by a magnitude 7.8 earthquake on Monday, and more than 23,000 deaths have been reported as of now.

Brand director Chris Heathe told the Richmond News the idea to hold a fundraiser came from the desire for the brand to contribute more "as a global citizen," and the urgency for one cause stood out from the rest.

"There is a serious need right now in Turkey and Syria," he said.

The ring, which is priced at $75, comes with free shipping and free personalization. It is made of sterling silver and three colours are available: yellow gold, white gold and rose gold.

Heathe said it was important to him that 100 per cent of sales revenue be donated and no production costs are deducted.

"The only way we would donate less than $75 is if the customer used a coupon code. We wouldn't deduct credit card transaction fees (from the donation) either," he explained.

The ring can be purchased on Geme's website until Feb. 28, 2023. For other ways to help, click here.
