Vancouver resident Ali Astaneh won $500,000 on the Extra on a Lotto 6/49 draw in February 2024.

A Vancouver man hasn't nailed down what exactly he wants to do with his newly acquired $500,000, but he knows it will involve travel.

Ali Astaneh said "yes" to the Extra when he got a ticket for the Feb. 3 Lotto 6/49 draw at a Kitsilano store; when the draw date came his ticket matched all four numbers, according to the BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC).

“I was in London Drugs,” says Astaneh in a press release. “I passed by during my walk and checked my ticket at the self-scanner. I had to check it one more time and then went home to tell my son!”

His son was the person he was most excited to tell about the huge win.

“I asked him to come over to ensure I was okay; my heartbeat was increasing!”

Now he's deciding what to do with the prize money. He's not rushing, but at the same time, he wants to follow his dreams.

"My dream is to travel to as many countries as possible,” he says.
