Wei Dong Chen of Burnaby won $5 million from Lotto 6/49's draw on Feb. 28, 2024. He purchased the winning ticket in Richmond.

Wei Dong Chen kept a $5-million secret from the world — until now.

The Burnaby resident earned the seven-figure payday from the Feb. 28, 2024, draw for Lotto 6/49.

He told his wife about the nation-wide Classic Draw jackpot win first, but she thought he was tricking her, according to a release from the BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC).

"My hand was shaking and I could not believe it," Chen explained. "I told my wife and she said, 'Are you teasing me?' She did not believe it!

"I was worried about losing [the ticket] but I am very happy to be here now."

Chen bought his ticket at Parker Place Convenience Centre inside Parker Place on Number 3 Road in Richmond.

It matched all six of Lotto 6/49's Classic Draw Prize numbers: 07, 24, 34, 42, 46 and 49.

Chen said he's now going to make plans to retire, but also plans on using the money to help his daughter finish her schooling.

"I don’t need to work as hard. I can plan to retire after my daughter finishes school!"

Chen said he discovered his winnings using the BCLC! Lottery App.

Last year, more than $120 million in Lotto 6/49 winnings were claimed by B.C. lottery players.
