Annual cowboy festival to two-step into Dundarave this Friday

The family-friendly festival Dundarave Hoedown is back for the third year running

Raid the wardrobe for your cowboy hat and dust off those boots, because West Vancouver’s liveliest, rootinest tootinest shindig is back for another year this week.

Led by the Ambleside Dundarave Business Improvement Association (ADBIA), the Ambleside Hoedown will take over Dundarave’s Marine Drive between 24th and 25th, Friday August 23

From 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. crowds can expect live music - with R&B group The Dynamics and dance band March Hare on the billing - alongside face painting, pony rides, tattoo stalls and a photo booth.

Nestled among the usual outdoor festival suspects are a number of unique things to see and do, including checking out the new mural that is brightening up the spot between Treasure Chest Antiques and Ami Boutique, or partaking in some line dancing lessons courtesy of some particularly seasoned steppers.

There’s even a pie eating contest, for both the kids and the grown ups. Think you’ve got what it takes to chow down pie quicker than the general public? Potential participants are invited to visit The Bakehouse after 4pm on August 23rd to sign up. The event will kick off outside the local haunt from 6:30 p.m.

Those hoping to satiate their hunger in a slightly more civilized way than stuffing their faces with pie can tuck into the onsite BBQ, all proceeds of which will go to the Harvest Project.

Local restaurants will also be offering specials, and the West Vancouver Firefighters Charitable Society will be hosting the beer garden to ensure there is something cool and crisp to wash it all down with.

While the road will be closed to traffic from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., all businesses will be open as normal. Parking will likely be trickier than usual, so walking or biking is recommended wherever possible.
