A Surrey man was handed a $483 ticket for excessive speeding.

A driver who excessively sped through a residential neighbourhood in B.C. has been caught and fined hundreds of dollars.

Police officers with Langley RCMP were at Wagonwheel Crescent and 56th Avenue on May 24 when they spotted a red Ferrari.

The driver was caught going 124 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

A second radar reading recorded the driver travelling 123 km/h.

"This level of speed in a residential area poses a significant risk to public safety,” said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom.

A 48-year-old Surrey man has been fined $483 for excessive speeding and his Ferrari has been impounded for seven days.

Sharoom said driving at excessive speeds where families live and children play is completely unacceptable.

"We take these violations seriously and will continue our enforcement efforts to keep our roads safe," he said.

Extra enforcement is taking place on B.C. roadways during the month of May as part of High-Risk Driving and Motorcycle Awareness Month.

Drivers are urged to slow down, remain focused and make safe choices while driving.
