It proved to be another successful year for the annual Coho Festival, as crowds descended upon West Vancouver’s Ambleside beach last Sunday.
The event, designed to raise funds for North Shore salmon conservation initiatives, featured live music on the main stage, stalls led by the various stewardship groups, food and beverage trucks and kids entertainment.
Tent talks on environmental preservation were carried out throughout the afternoon, led by speakers from North Shore Streamkeepers, Ocean Wise, Fraser River Sturgeon Conservation Society, UBC and SFU.
At the crux of the festival was the Coho salmon barbecue, a staple since the event’s beginnings in 1979.
Volunteers dished out the barbecued fillets alongside salad and corn on the cob, with some local names, including District of North Vancouver mayor Mike Little and MLA Bowinn Ma, getting in on the action to offer a helping hand.
The day marked the return of the West Vancouver festival following a brief hiatus in 2023.
