A bomb threat was received at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) in the early hours on Wednesday.

Richmond RCMP received a bomb threat around 2 a.m.at the YVR Nav Canada air traffic control tower on Thursday, July 3.

The tower was evacuated and a thorough search with the help of Integrated Police Dog Services (IPDS) found no threat.

"The RCMP and YVR take threats of this nature very seriously,” said Cpl. Melissa Lui, media relations office with Richmond RCMP.

"After the initial investigation, investigators determined this to be a false report, and that there is no credible threat to public safety.”

Early Thursday morning, Nav Canada posted on X that bomb threats were affecting airport facilities in Ottawa, Montreal, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Calgary, and a "temporary ground stop" was implemented.

Around 9 a.m., another post said all operations were back to normal.

"Travellers are encouraged to check directly with their airlines for the latest updates, as delays may still occur," Nav Canada said in its post.

They commended employees and law enforcement for their quick response.

"In the interest of security protocols, we cannot disclose the specific nature of the threat," the post read. "However, we will continue to work closely with authorities as the investigation progresses."

Richmond RCMP thanked IPDS and YVR staff for their actions in keeping the public safe.

The case is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 quoting file number 2025-21021 or emailing [email protected]
