B.C. parents picked Noah as top baby name in 2023

This is the second year that Noah is listed as the most popular baby name in B.C.

Nine out of the 10 popular names chosen in 2022 were also chosen in 2023, according to the B.C. government.

Prospective B.C. parents looking to brainstorm baby names now have the most up-to-date list of the most common names given in 2023. 

For the second year in a row, the most popular name for babies born in B.C. this year is Noah, according to the B.C. government, which cited data from the government organization Vital Statistics Agency.

Other popular names for babies born in the province are Oliver, Olivia, Theodore, Liam, Jack, Emma, Sophia, Ethan and Leo.  

The top names for babies born in 2022 have a significant overlap with those chosen in 2023: Noah, Olivia, Oliver, Liam, Theodore, Jack, Emma, Lucas, Leo and Sophia.

Every year, Vital Statistics Agency creates a yearly list of popular baby names based on birth registrations they receive. The list includes every given name that was chosen five or more times.

The names are based on the 37,650 babies that were registered as born in B.C. from Jan. 1 until Dec. 18, 2023.
