The court heard Patrick Catiano Rodrigues has made progress while in custody.

A man found guilty of multiple crimes in a 2018 home invasion involving two Vancouver people will be spending the next 78.5 months behind bars.

Patrick Catiano Rodrigues was found guilty of assault, assault with a weapon, breaking and entering a dwelling, aggravated assault and two counts of unlawful confinement or imprisonment.

The charges arose from incidents that took place at a house on Vancouver’s Ontario Street on Nov. 30, 2018.

The court information documents said Rodrigues, 45, broke into that residence to commit a robbery and committed an aggravated assault and then confined a man.

As well, documents said, he also confined a woman who was in the home.

Further, they said, Rodrigues had a shotgun during the situation.

On Sept. 14, 2022, Judge Patrick Doherty found Rodrigues guilty in the case.

Doherty combined concurrent and consecutive sentences on the charges to arrive at a total sentence of 90 months.

Rodrigues has been in and out of custody since the charges, having been granted bail at one point before returning to custody.

Doherty gave Rodriques 11.5 months’ credit for time served before sentencing, leaving 78.5 months left to be served.

“You’ve got to receive a big sentence for this kind of crime,” Doherty told Rodriques, noting the man has made progress while in custody.

“Here’s hoping we never see you in the courts again,” the judge said.
