Bail hearing delayed in fatal Vancouver stabbing case

Jason Robert St. Anne died in hospital after being stabbed on Jan. 8, 2023.

The bail hearing for a man charged with manslaughter in the January 2023 fatal stabbing death of another Vancouver man has been delayed.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) said Jason Robert St. Anne was stabbed on Jan. 8, 2023 after an altercation near the intersection of Yukon Street and West 5th Avenue.

Police said St. Anne was a resident at the Yukon Shelter and Housing Centre, outside of which the stabbing happened.

St. Anne was rushed to hospital where he died.

The VPD said Feb. 23 that Dillon Robert Goth, 28, has been charged with manslaughter in connection with St. Anne’s death. He remains in custody.

On May 16, Goth appeared by video in Vancouver Provincial Court before Judge Harbans Dhillon.

He was there for an update on the preparation of a technical suitability report. Such reports are done to determine whether an accused can stand trial.

The finding of St. Anne led to the closure of the alley between West 4th and West 5th avenues as investigators searched the area strewn with rubbish and drug paraphernalia.

Security footage shows investigators found a bladed weapon during one search of the area, as well as bagged clothing.

Goth has previous convictions for possession of stolen property, probation breaches and breaking and entering.

Dhillon put the case over to June 13 after granting an extension of 28 days to complete the report.
