Eclipse Concerts in Switzerland posted a video two years ago of Gord Grdina’s Haram saying, “The morning after their Basel show, we took Vancouver ensemble Haram for a ferry ride across the Rhein, followed by a visit to Basel’s glorious Bäckerei KULT (the city’s oldest bakery dating back to 1726). Croissants aux amandes, quiche and coffee flowed ... as did the music.”
“En Shakawt al Hawa (If you complain about love),” is a traditional Iraqi folk song that’s included on the debut album from Gord Grdina’s Haram, Her Eyes Illuminate, released in 2012 on Songlines Recordings. The band are playing at Capilano University on Friday, Feb. 28 with guitarist Marc Ribot, recording new material over the weekend and then playing again in Seattle at Town Hall on Monday, March. 2.
