City wants locals to weigh in on future 'Broadway public realm'

Will that mean natural-looking parks, public art, reallocated road space, or something else?

A sketch of a potential block along Broadway from a draft of the Broadway Plan. The City of Vancouver is asking residents of three key neighbourhoods for their thoughts on the public realm.

With the Broadway Plan approved, the city is turning to locals in Kitsilano, Fairview, and Mount Pleasant for ideas about the public realm.

That realm will be the public spaces in between the new developments and private properties in the region.

"During the Broadway Plan process we heard from thousands of people about ideas, interests and opportunities for streets, parks, and public open spaces in Kitsilano, Fairview and Mount Pleasant." states the city online.

While zoning will shape much of the land in the Broadway Plan area, the public areas aren't as set, yet, and the public reams need to be defined.

Will that mean natural-looking parks, public art, reallocated road space, or something else. Should the city acquire more land in the area, or are privately owned public spaces a better option?

These are some of the uses the city is looking to talk to the public about in an effort to create a draft plan.

That feedback can be shared through an online survey running until Oct. 22.

There will also be several pop-up engagement booths:
