Fifty new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported in B.C. in the past 48 hours, says the provincial health officer, bringing the total to just under 2,000.

Dr. Bonnie Henry said a total of 1,998 people have tested positive for COVID-19. Four additional people have died, bringing the number of deaths in B.C. due to the virus to 103.

There are 808 active cases in B.C. Of those who have tested positive, 1,190 are considered to be fully recovered.

There are 117 cases on Vancouver Island, up two from Saturday, 795 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 879 in Fraser Health, 164 in Interior Health and 43 in Northern Health.

Ninety-seven people in B.C. are in hospital, including 36 in intensive care or acute care units.

Six people in the Island Health region are in hospital, including one who is in intensive care. A total of 24 people in Island Health have gone to hospital, and four people have died.

Henry said there are two new outbreaks at long-term care facilities in the Fraser Health region. Each facility has one case. That brings the total of long-term care facilities with current outbreaks to 21. There are also outbreaks at three acute care units. Twelve facilities have had their outbreaks declared over.

Not everyone who might have COVID-19 is tested, and actual cases are likely higher than the confirmed cases.
