The following is a selection of volunteer opportunities from various community organizations, made available through Volunteer North Shore, a service of North Shore Community Resources Society.

Board Director This agency acts as a strong voice for seniors through research, planning, co-ordination, collaboration and education. This volunteer position entails monthly meetings, including some committee work. The person will bring a variety of skills, experience and diversity to the organization and have an interest in the organization’s development. They are willing to learn, remain up-to-date about the needs of seniors on the North Shore and develop additional skills in order to be effective board members.

Volunteer Ski Snow Board Instructor or Helper Volunteer Instructors receive their CADS Level 1 certification during training over one weekend in January and mentor with experienced instructors. Those wishing to work with students in the stand-up ski or snowboard program, should be competent skiers on blue runs. Volunteers need to be strong enough on the slopes so that they do not fall and are able to ensure that student is supported, physically, if needed.

Tree Lot Volunteer Duties include customer service, general tree lot maintenance, promotion of Aunt Leah’s, practicing good safety with tools and equipment and cashier and administration tasks.

Distribution Volunteer Wednesday mornings from 7:30 a.m. to noon. Help unloading and reloading food boxes from truck; assist with set up, operations, and cleanup of the distribution centre; create a warm, welcoming environment; other tasks delegated by site co-ordinator.

Operation Red Nose Volunteer Keep the community safe during the holiday season. Volunteer as a driver, escort driver or navigator. The escort driver picks up the other two volunteers at the client’s destination and drives them to another client location or back to the headquarters. The driver drives the client’s vehicle. The navigator accompanies the driver, answers client questions about the service and prepares a receipt for the service.
