It’s that time of year where the District of North Vancouver looks to honour some of its exceptional young people.

The municipality is seeking nominations for the 2020 Civic Youth Awards until March 6.

The Youth Awards program recognizes young people in the district between the ages of 10 and 24 for their achievements and contributions to the community.

The awards are divided into four categories:

Nominees for the Youth Recognition Award should have made great personal strides in overcoming barriers, or demonstrated great skill in academics, arts, or athletics; the Youth Community Enhancement Award is for young volunteers who made great contributions to the community while on a committee; the Outstanding Youth-Friendly Business/Supporter of Youth Award goes to a person, or business, that did an exceptional job hiring or training youth; while the Outstanding Youth Team Award recognizes a youth group who have completed a minimum of 50 hours per person of community service.

Anyone can nominate a youth (or youth-friendly business) in the community for an award, according to the district website. However, people are asked to not nominate their own children.

The Youth Awards will be presented during a special celebration at district hall slated for May 5.
