Head on down to Waterfront Park in Lower Lonsdale this Saturday and Sunday for the Caribbean Days Festival, a free-to-attend event put on annually by the Trinidad & Tobago Cultural Society of BC offering up a whole weekend of tropical rhythms, cuisine, carnival and cultural experiences, including a parade, live music, a kids zone, vendors and more.

If Juno-nominated singer-songwriters are what you seek, then you’re in luck if you’re planning to visit the West Vancouver Memorial Library tomorrow. Ginalina, a bilingual folk singer for children and families, is performing in the library’s Welsh Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Ginalina’s goal? To make engaging music for families by exploring the beauty in ordinary moments and connecting with people through song.

It wouldn’t be another weekend on the North Shore without some kind of outdoor racing-type event taking place. We’re OK with that, as the 10K Growler Run is returning tomorrow, kicking off at 9 a.m. at Bridge Brewing in North Vancouver. Participants are encouraged to dress up, bring out a pair of their best growlers and run with the community. And at the finish line, why not enjoy an ice cold beer? Registration ($40) is still open.

Woodpeckers love to drill holes in old trees, and the Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre wants you and your children, ages three through eight, to learn even more about the charming birds tomorrow from 10:30 a.m. to noon. An ecology centre naturalist will teach you about the woodpeckers of Lynn Canyon Park, as you listen for their “laughing” calls, check out their favourite feeding trees, and enjoy a walk in the woods. Cost: $8.75 per child. Register at 604-990-3755.

The Live & Local Summer Concert series continues in North Vancouver. Visit Panorama Park in North Vancouver tonight to hear Chicago blues rockers Copper Crow Blues Band as they perform a free show from 7 to 9 p.m.
