Ralph Townsend

April 27, 1931 - July 19, 2025

Ralph Townsend “ Papa” was born on April 27, 1931, in Moncton, New Brunswick, and made his way west at the age of 17, drawn by the call of the wild and the promise of a rugged life.

Over the years, Ralph wore many hats— logger, butcher, hunter, rancher— but above all, he was a true cowboy. His love for the outdoors and deep commitment to family defined him. Ralph was a man of grit, humour, heart, and old-fashioned values. Whether working hard or sharing stories around a campfire, he lived life with authenticity and a strong sense of purpose.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Joan Townsend; daughter Colleen Townsend; stepchildren Debbie Nelson (James), Mark Cook, and David Cook (Melanie); eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his beloved sisters Joan Acorn (Dave) and Carolyn Sewell (Graham), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many cherished friends. Ralph was predeceased by his brother, John.

His passing leaves a space that can’ t be filled, but his spirit will live on in the wild places he loved and the people who carry his memory. Ralph’ s presence will be deeply missed, but his stories, laughter, and love for the land will live on in all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, Ralph would’ ve wanted something simple and real: take a walk in the woods and raise a glass of overproof rum or drink of your choice in his honour. Cheers to a life well-lived. Celebration of Life to follow.
