Get Vancouver flights from YVR airport to Hong Kong at a steal thanks to a new promotion in May 2023.

One of the most vibrant destinations in the world will welcome Canadians for nearly free this spring thanks to a substantial discount.

Hong Kong will offer a limited number of round-trip economy class tickets from various Canadian cities to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) starting this month with totally free base fares.

There is a limit of one ticket per transaction while supplies last and flights must be booked through Cathay Pacific. Although the base fare is waived on the total price of the ticket, air passengers must still pay surcharges and taxes. Economy roundtrip YVR-HKG flights can typically cost in the $4700 to $5400 range, with taxes, fees, and surcharges coming in at about $500.

Travellers departing from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) can purchase tickets beginning Wednesday (May 17) at 6 p.m. They must sign up on the Cathay Pacific website in order to receive their unique code to take advantage of the discounted tickets for this limited-time offer.

The initiative is part of the "Hello Hong Kong" promotional campaign, which launched in February. The Airport Authority Hong Kong is offering 500,000 sponsored air tickets across various markets via four major home-based carriers: Cathay Pacific Airways, Hong Kong Express, Hong Kong Airlines, and Greater Bay Airlines.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and its collaborating partners have also created roughly one million "Hong Kong Goodies" visitor consumption vouchers, which will be distributed at its visitor centres to tourists.

These vouchers include complimentary welcome drinks at participating bars, restaurants, and hotels, or cash vouchers redeemable in the transportation, culinary, and retail sectors, as well as at various attractions from over 16,000 outlets across the city.

Hong Kong has numerous exciting developments, including "the M+ and HongKong Palace Museum at the West Kowloon Cultural District, the state-of-the-art sixth-generation Peak Tram, Water World Ocean Park, Hong Kong Disneyland's captivating nighttime spectacle "Momentous," and the enhanced waterfront promenades, offering breathtaking new perspectives of Victoria Harbour," according to a news release.

The city will also host over 250 events and festivals throughout the year, including its popular Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races, which will return following a four-year hiatus.

As of Dec. 29, 2022, Hong Kong no longer requires arriving travellers to conduct PCR coronavirus tests and the government also lifted the Vaccine Pass which allowed access to specified premises.

On March 1, the mask mandate and physical distancing protocols were also lifted in the city.
