Two Cadillacs were extensively damaged by arson fires early Thursday in Colwood, West Shore RCMP say.
Sgt. Kevin Shaw of the detachment’s Serious Crime Unit said the arsons are believed to be targeted.
“While these types of crimes are concerning, we want to reassure the community that there is no indication the public at large is at risk,” Shaw said.
Officers responded to reports of the vehicle fires in the 3300-block of Painter Road about 1:25 a.m.
Witnesses told police they heard a loud bang before the fires started.
Both vehicles were engulfed in flames — a black 2021 Cadillac XT4 and a black 2011 Cadillac CTS.
Colwood Fire Rescue crews were able to get the fires out quickly, police said.
There were no injuries, and no one has been arrested.
A male about six feet tall with a slim build, wearing dark clothing, was seen running from the scene.
Area residents are asked to check dashcam or home-surveillance footage from 1 a.m. to 1:45 a.m. Thursday.
Anyone with information who has yet to speak to police is asked to call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.
