The Nanaimo RCMP’s Bike Patrol Unit has located tools believed to have been stolen during an early-March break-in at Nanaimo Search and Rescue headquarters, along with several bicycles also thought to be stolen.

The items were found stashed in a wooded area near Jingle Pot Road and Third Street on Wednesday.

The bikes are all relatively new and a few of them have considerable value, police said.

More tools and an e-bike from other break-ins were also found and have been returned to their owners.

Surveillance footage from Nanaimo Search and Rescue’s compound at Fourth Street and Chesterlea Avenue from March 5 showed someone entering the area, likely after scaling the fence.

Two cargo trailers containing an array of equipment were broken into after the latches of the access doors were pried open, and two cases full of items were stolen.

An automated external defibrillator, chainsaw, satellite-communications unit and other equipment with a total estimated value of about $5,000 were taken, although the defibrillator and satellite-communications unit were later recovered by police.

Anyone with information relating to the bikes is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
