Sign up for the Terry Fox Run today, see your money matched

Community runs in memory of Port Coquitlam hero Terry Fox take place on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024, around the country. Donations and fundraising will be matched on April 12 by PharmaChoice Canada.

Today, April 12, marks the anniversary of Port Coquitlam hometown hero Terry Fox launching his cross-country Marathon of Hope from St. John’s, N.L., in 1980.

Today is also the day that registration opens for the 44th annual Terry Fox Run.

And today is the only day on the 2024 calendar that general donations and peer-to-peer fundraising will be matched by PharmaChoice Canada, up to $100,000.

In the Tri-Cities, there are four runs on Sept. 15:

  • in Fox’s hometown of Port Coquitlam, by the Hyde Creek Recreation Centre
  • at Coquitlam’s Mundy Park
  • at Rocky Point Park in Port Moody
  • at Spirit Park in the Village of Anmore

This year, the Terry Fox Foundation is using the hashtag #NoMatterWhat; the motto representing Fox’s spirit is also replicated on the run T-shirts, which came out last month and have raised in nearly $1 million for cancer research.

Once again, the T-shirts are in partnership with Vancouver actor Ryan Reynolds.

“Joining my brother Terry on his Marathon of Hope in 1980 and witnessing his unwavering courage and perseverance has remained one of the most memorable and profound experiences of my life,” said Darrell Fox, senior advisor for the Terry Fox Research Institute, in a news release issued today, April 12.

“Terry’s story is a great source of inspiration for many people around the world because of his incredible determination to achieve ambitious goals, help others, and make a difference by raising funds for cancer research, no matter what.”
