POWELL RIVER — Police in Powell River say a pickup truck hit a ramp on a BC Ferries vessel on Friday morning.

Mounties say the truck's brakes were suspected to have malfunctioned when it hit the boat's galley ramp, with a photo showing the heavily damaged Dodge pickup wedged underneath.

Powell River RCMP say the crash happened aboard the Malaspina Sky, which serves the Sunshine Coast.

Police say the driver was a 66-year-old man who was issued a $552 ticket for improper brake performance under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Mounties say the crash delayed several sailings as the truck had to be removed from the vessel.

An inspection was also needed to "ensure its structural integrity."
