IHIT investigating fatal stabbing in Fraser Valley community

B.C.'s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been deployed to Mission after a fatal stabbing.

About 3:30 p.m. Monday, Mission RCMP responded to a report of a man suffering from life-threatening injuries from a stabbing on the 7200 block of Park Street in the Fraser Valley community.

Police, paramedics and firefighters responded to the scene and provided emergency first aid, but the victim died from his injuries.

IHIT has taken conduct of the investigation and is working with Mission RCMP, the BC Coroners Service, RCMP Forensic Identification Section and Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia on the case.

Investigators believe it to be an isolated incident with no connection to the Lower Mainland gang conflict.

The victim has been identified, though his name is was not released, to allow time for notification of family.

“We are still in the early stages of the investigation,” said Sgt. Timothy Pierotti of IHIT.

Investigators were working Monday to canvass the area for witnesses and video.
