Health Canada is recalling a SHEIN trench coat for toddlers over possible lead exposure.

A SHEIN trench coat for toddlers is being recalled by Health Canada because it poses a risk of lead exposure.

According to the recall notice, the SHEIN Toddler Girl Ruffle Trim Double Breasted Polyurethane Trench Coat (SKU skouter03201013819) “contains lead in excess of allowable limits.”

“Lead is toxic if ingested, especially to children. A range of serious health effects have been associated with exposure to lead including anemia, vomiting, diarrhea, serious brain injury, convulsions, coma, as well as effects related to the liver, kidneys, heart and immune system,” the recall notice reads.

“In extreme cases, there have been deaths. Since lead builds up in the body, ongoing exposure to even very small amounts of lead can result in large amounts of lead being present in the body.”

SHEIN reported that 11 of the coats were sold in Canada from October 2020 to September 2021, according to Health Canada.

Health Canada is advising consumers who purchased the trench coat to immediately stop using it or to dispose or destroy the item.

SHEIN will also automatically issue a full refund to all accounts that purchased the item, according to Health Canada.

The agency said that, as of Oct. 29, the company has not received any reports of incidents or injuries in Canada and in the U.S.
