Bids are now being accepted for creatively repurposed doors and small furniture pieces as part of Habitat for Humanity Victoria’s third annual Open a Door charity art auction.

The event brings together artists from around the region to repurpose a door or a small piece of furniture from the agency’s Victoria or Westshore ReStore locations into one-of-a-kind works of art.

“The result is a vibrant collection of pieces that reflect each artist’s vision of a brighter future,” Habitat Victoria said.

The pieces, on display at centre court in Mayfair Shopping Centre, can be viewed online and purchased via online bids at habitatvictoria.com/openadoor. Bids can be made through Saturday.

ReStore sells donated new and gently used furniture, appliances, building supplies and other items to support Habitat for Humanity Victoria, which has overseen the building of 34 homes and served 38 families since it was started in 1990.

“At Habitat Victoria, we believe in opening doors to new possibilities,” said interim chief executive Krista Bekkema. “This creative and community-driven event is a powerful way to support our mission of helping families move from renting to owning, giving them the stability and security they deserve.”

Mayfair chief executive May Wang said the mall “is honoured to host Habitat Victoria’s Open a Door fundraiser and support the noble cause of affordable homeownership.”

“Together, we open doors to brighter futures and stronger communities.”
