Grades 8 and 9 track and field athletes are eligible to participate in the BC Summer Games.

Are you a 14- to 15-year-old track and field athlete interested in participating in the upcoming 2024 BC Summer Games? If so, there's still one day left to sign up for trials.

The BC Summer Games is an inaugural multi-sport event for track and field athletes and is set to take place in Maple Ridge from July 17 to 21.

Youth ages 14 to 15 are eligible to compete in athletics and represent Zone 5, which includes Richmond.

The representatives of Zone 5 are hoping more Richmond students will put their names in the hat.

Notable Richmond athletes who shone in past BC Summer Games include Camryn Rogers and Olympic medallist Evan Dunfee.

To sign up for the selection process, athletes can go through one of two routes: trials-based or performance-based.

The Zone 5 BC Summer Games Trials are set to take place from May 4 to 5 at the NorWesters Elementaries Meet and the registration deadline is May 2.

Athletes who don't have a BC Athletics membership can pay a non-member fee of $5, a one-time payment that will allow them to register for as many events as they like.

Athletes who are going through the performance-based route must register for a performance at a BC Athletics-sanctioned event or a BC School Sports Zone Championship meet.

For BC School Sports meets not sanctioned by BC Athletics, athletes must submit proof of the results on the BC Summer Games athlete declaration form.

All athletes wishing to be considered for the BC Summer Games must fill out an athlete declaration form by June 3.
