Arrested against a backdrop of an apparent rise in gang rivalry in Prince George, two men police say have ties to the city's drug trade are now in custody on weapons charges.

Prince George RCMP's street crew unit apprehended Colin Michaud Durrand, 31, on Tuesday and Sebastian Gordon Goudreau, 34, on Wednesday.

RCMP said Durrand was found with body armour and a loaded high-calibre rifle with high-capacity magazines and had tried to ram a police vehicle before he was arrested.

Goudreau, in turn, was found with two loaded, restricted weapons, body armour, cash and a large quantity of suspected fentanyl, according to RCMP.

Prince George has been home to three homicides so far this year and police suspect they are due to a conflict between gangs involved in the city's drug trade.
