National Canadian Film Day is almost upon us, and the Whistler Film Festival (WFF) is celebrating with a free movie.

Slash/Back is helmed by Iqaluit-born director Nyla Innuksuk and follows the story of Maika, a teenage girl living in Pangnirtung, Nunavut. When an alien invasion encroaches upon her hometown, Maika and her friends band together to organize an unlikely resistance.

Due to being set near the North Pole, Slash/Back takes place entirely during daytime: a radical departure from the vast majority of horror films.

The Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre (SLCC) will screen the 14A-rated movie on Wednesday, April 17 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available online.
