More people voted at advance polls this year

More people in Timmins-James Bay turned up at advance polls this year.

Elections Canada's preliminary numbers for advance polls report 9,484 people cast a ballot early for the 44th general election. For the 43rd general election in 2019 there were 7,887 votes cast at advance polls.

Election day is Monday, Sept. 20. Polls are open from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The number of locations people will be able to vote at in the riding is slightly down this year.

There are 53 voting sites in this election, compared to 60 in 2019, according to Elections Canada.

The number of polling stations has only dropped by one, however, from 151 in 2019 to 150 this year.

For advance polls, there was an increase in the number of voting locations. 

There were 15 sites to vote this year, compared to 13 in 2019. There were 19 polls, whereas there were 17 for the last election.

The candidates in Timmins-James Bay are NDP Charlie AngusLiberal Steve BlackConservative Morgan Ellerton, and PPC Stephen MacLeod.
