West Vancouver Secondary students have been evacuated and police are investigating after an apparent threat against the school Tuesday morning.

“In consultation between schools and the police, a decision was made to close the school pending further investigation of both the nature and credibility of the threat,” said Const. Jeff Palmer, West Vancouver police spokesman.

Investigators are remaining mostly silent about the specifics, including who made the threat and what it consisted of but parents do not need to be alarmed, Palmer said.

“That’s part of the investigation and we are choosing not to get into a public description of it,” Palmer said. “Everyone was found safe. The school appeared safe. The decision was made very much in a precautionary manner.”

As of 11 a.m., police did not have anyone in custody, Palmer said.

It’s not clear when the school will be reopened.

“Classes are done for today and reopening of the school will be assessed on an ongoing basis,” Palmer said.
